How to create an online QR code for your business

Zapiplay

Adapt your business to the new situation: we tell you how we create a QR code to digitally share your letter or other information you want to transmit.

The current health crisis has meant that it is no longer advisable to hand out your restaurant menu or any other information to customers.

Assembling your letter online and sharing it with a QR code is one of the easiest ways to overcome this pitfall, and here we show you how to do it step by step.

What is the QR code?

The QR code is a visual element such as a dotted box that stores information for a mobile device.

It works very simply: you focus on the box with the camera of your smartphone or tablet and it detects it and translates it, taking you to the page or showing you the information of the linked link.

The main advantage of QR is that it saves your customers from having to type the link in the browser.

The QR can take you to a website, an email, an image, a contact... or any resource that is hosted on the Internet, which makes it ideal for sharing not only the menu, but also any other information with your customers.

Steps to create your letter with QR

You'll see how easy it is! We'll take care of everything for you.

  1. Publish your letter online

To use it you must first upload your menu, menu or the information you want to share to the network.

If you have a website, add a section with the menu. This way your customers will also add visits and possibly also browse through other sections in passing.

If you don't have a website, you can upload an image or PDF with the letter on your social networks, on your business page on Google, on a recommendation or booking page, or on any platform where the file is hosted and visible (Drive, Dropbox, Imgur...).

Then, get the link to your letter by right clicking on the image, or by accessing the document and copying its address into the browser bar.

  1. We generate the QR code

There are many sites to create your QR code online for free. Here are two that we use regularly at Zapiplay:

QR Code Monkey

This is one of the most popular QR code generators. As we mentioned at the beginning, the QR code can either send you to a URL or, when scanned, display a text, an email address, a phone number, a social network profile, a wifi password... There are multiple options, you just have to choose the one you are interested in from the top menu of QR Code Monkey. Following the example of the restaurant menu, you would select URL.

It also stands out for its customisation options, as it allows you to personalise the colour and shape of the QR, and even add your logo if you want.

QR Code Generator

It is a very similar tool to the previous one. QR Code Generator also allows you to choose the format you want. It also has a configurator where you can customise the code: shape and colour, frame and logo.

  1. We test that it works

And now comes the most important part: testing!

Open the camera on your phone and check that it correctly accesses the file or website you have indicated. Just hold the camera for a few seconds pointing to the QR and you will get a notification to access the link.

If you do not receive any notification, it is likely that your device does not have this action by default and you have to use a QR reader app, such as QR Code Reader on Android or QR Reader on Apple. You install them for free in a moment and scan the code with them.

  1. Place it prominently

Print it out and place it in areas where your customers will see it quickly. On a sticker on the table, on the napkin holders, or in key points such as the bar, wall, windows...

Anywhere is fine as long as it is easily accessible.

  1. Further advice

Before finalising your QR code, consider these three details as well:

Watch out for the resolution. Make sure your QR works in the size you are going to print it. If the resolution is too high, the device may not read the QR correctly.

Avoid putting coloured backgrounds or images under the code. The more contrasted it is, the easier it will be to read on devices. Black and white is a good option.

It is recommended that you also leave the link to the menu visible somewhere next to the QR code, in case a user does not know how to use it or prefers to access it from the browser. If the link to your menu is too long for them to type, you can use our URL shortener to create a shortened version.

As you can see, creating a QR code is very simple and can help your business adapt to the new normal 🙂 We hope you get a lot out of it!
