How to add a business to Google Maps without a physical shop or address

Google Maps is an excellent marketing resource for local businesses, but not all businesses operate from a physical location. Business owners who want their business to be listed, but do not have a physical location can still find their way onto Google Maps. The listing will generate leads and help grow the business through new customer acquisition. Any business without a physical location should still seek a Google Maps listing.

Unaddressed business

Many businesses operate without having a physical location for customers. Mobile mechanics and welders, web-based businesses, delivery services and other businesses that do not require customers to visit a physical location remain valuable members of the local economy. Some of these businesses may have a physical location that is not customer-oriented.

Running a business without an address is becoming increasingly popular, especially with the growth of web-based businesses and remote working. These businesses should still consider listing on Google Maps in the city where the business is registered to generate leads and contacts in the local community. The listing is valuable, even for businesses that operate on a national or global scale.

Google business location requirements

Google Maps has requirements for local business listings. Even when your business does not want to show an address in the listing, Google requires a street address for the business. This verifies that the business exists and is registered in the area where the listing will appear. Without this verification process, fake businesses could populate listings and dilute the validity of Google Maps.

To register a business on Google Maps, Google Support says you must first add your information through Google My Business. You must also sign in to your Google account to go through this process. Use your business email when setting up the initial Google account to keep everything separate from your personal account. It's not mandatory, but it keeps the business under a separate digital roof.

After logging in and entering your Google My Business settings, go ahead and enter your business address. Don't worry; the address will not be listed on Google Maps. Select the option "I deliver goods and services to my customers" and your business will be listed without an address. After selecting this option, continue and enter your service areas and business details for the listing.

Service areas are especially important because that is where your business will appear. ThriveHive recommends that you enter them correctly so that your listing will appear in the most relevant search queries.

Google My Business Support

If you are having difficulty implementing the listing, Google Support can answer most of your questions. One of the most common problems is a listing that does not show all business information. This situation happens because the business is not yet verified. Google sends a card to the address with a verification code to ensure that the business is operating at the designated address.

If another problem arises, the support site has a whole community of helpful people and you can contact Google directly. Try the online help and community before contacting support because answers are often easy to find for basic problems. You cannot check the business listing without completing all the steps, and support does not change this reality.
